Yoga students perform a set series of postures, always in the same order, beginning with a sequence know as Sun Salutations, moving from one pose to the next in a continual flow where there is one breath for each movement. This vigorous practice produces intense internal heat that creates a stronger body, a detoxifying sweat and a calmer mind.It was developed by K. Pattabhi Jois during the 20th century and is often promoted as a modern-day form of classical Indian yoga. Ashtanga means eight limbs or branches, of which asana or physical yoga poses is only one.
